On a standard keyboard, 1,447 English words can be typed with the left hand alone, while only 187 words can be typed with the right.
Just from looking at my keyboard, some of the more common consonants, “R,” “S,” and “T,” are on the left side. However, more vowels are located on the right side of the keyboard.
Some sample words:
- Age
- Cart
- Date
- Exact
- Free
- Great
- Qatar
- Rest
- Stew
- Tread
- Vase
- Water
- Zeta
Interesting fact-where did you find this out?
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty cool. I never noticed that. But I guess I do use my left hand to type more than my right. I'm watching my fingers type now that you've said that. Though, I use my right to hit the enter and space key which are important. And if you want to use contractions, the right hand is important.
ReplyDeleteThis makes me glad to be right handed. Left hand on the keyboard doing all the work, right hand holding a spoon or a chicken leg or something.
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering now what all this means. All those right-sided vowels. It must mean... something. It's such a wonderful and odd fact. Thanks for sharing it, Caitlin!
ReplyDeleteI definitely looked down at my keyboard a few times while reading this post. And like Michelle, while I'm typing. These posts are making me think
